We have been processing the valuable raw material selenium at our site in Röthenbach a. d. Pegnitz for more than 75 years. Depending on the area of application and customer, we ensure the required level of quality without fluctuations and the appropriate processing.
 

Our customers come from all around the world and include companies in the glass, animal feed, solar, semiconductor, and optics industries, as well as in the pharmaceutical, electroplating, steel and fertilizer industries. In more than 50 countries, we support around 500 customers from 20 different industrial sectors with our portfolio of over 50 products.

Our focus on technology and development

Laminar oxidation

RETORTE has developed the direct laminar oxidation of selenium using pure oxygen. This unique technology is the only one of its kind worldwide and makes RETORTE a manufacturer with the highest environmental standards and top-quality products. Several modern, computer-controlled oxidation plants allow the production of either selenium dioxide or selenious acid, depending on the requirement.

High-purity selenium production

n the field of high-purity selenium, RETORTE is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for fine purification, reduction, and alloying. Advanced cleanroom technology and a vacuum drying cabinet ensure the highest standards in drying and packaging. The reduction reactor forms the heart of high-purity selenium production: here, highly purified selenious acid is processed into reduction powder selenium, the essential precursor for the manufacture of high-purity selenium.

Selenium oxidation plant

The selenium oxidation plant is an in-house development by RETORTE, which has propelled the company to the position of global market leader in high-purity selenium and selenium chemicals. The plants are continuously improved and upgraded. They are computer-controlled and monitored, equipped with state-of-the-art software and control electronics.

Spray drying

With the introduction of spray drying for sodium selenite in 1995, RETORTE achieved significant improvements in both product quality and working conditions. Compared to conventional ground material, the product is low in dust and free of larger particles. The benefits: more homogeneous mixing in feed and enhanced safety for production staff in feed manufacturing.

Quality control in our own laboratory

In our in-house laboratory, our products undergo continuous quality control. For example, we verify that the purity meets the stringent requirements of the respective industries. As one of the few producers worldwide, we are able to manufacture high-purity selenium with a purity level of 99.999 %.

Environment and sustainability

We have numerous certifications that attest to our mindful use of resources, suppliers, employees, and the environment. Our raw materials are sourced only from countries that comply with all environmental standards. Regular checks ensure that we have an overview of the entire supply and production chain with regard to compliance with environmental regulations, occupational safety, and human rights.
