Researchers have found that the application of selenium-enriched fertilizers in lettuce plants reduces the accumulation of lead and cadmium. Peaches and pears treated with foliar sprays containing higher selenium levels remained firmer and ripened more evenly during storage. In low doses, selenium has been shown to positively influence plant resistance to various environmental stress factors, such as drought, UV-B radiation, soil salinity, as well as extreme cold and heat.
